2008 vs. Battle Ground
The Evergreen Plainsmen held on to defeat the Battle Ground Tigers 20-17 at home Thursday night in a 4A GSHL football matchup.
Evergreen struck early when Krell Hudson caught a 7 yard pass from Marvin Thomas less than two minutes into the game. Battle Ground answered later in the quarter as Komivi Akengue ran in the score from four yards out to tie the game at 7-7. Evergreen RB Wilford Venable ran in the next score from eight yards out to give the Plainsmen the 14-7 lead. The Tigers tied the score in the second quarter on a forth and goal from the one as John Simon took the direct snap, faked the dive, pulled up and hit a wide open Zac Hearron for the score. The half ended in a 14-14 tie.
In the third quarter Evergreen DB Trevor Carnahan intercepted Hunter Vanderpolls pass to set up the Plainsmens next scoring drive. Four plays later Thomas dumped a swing pass off to James Monk who darted through the Tigers defense for the 15 yard TD. Battle Ground blocked the extra point to leave the score at 20-14 Plainsmen. Tigers kicker Riku Wanzek added a 27 yard FG in the forth to bring the score to 20-17.
